Details of the rankings below:
- S6E01 - Shawn Rescues Darth Vader"
- Very fun start to the season.
- "Diplomatic Immunity" - very funny.
- Great guest stars.
- A+ tier
- S6E02 - Last Night Gus
- "Calm down, Peaches. Come back to bed"
- "Henry Spencer, where are your pants"
- Homage to the hangover, but one of the best psych episodes of all time.
- Not surprising that this was the one they played at Psy-con.
- S tier
- S6E03 - This Episode Sucks
- Introducing Marlowe and her clavical.
- This one had a high joke density, and they all landed! Serious laugh out loud moments.
- Return of dumb Shawn, but not like the overboard season 5 absurdity. This one is believable.
- Lots of Lassie comedy. Top tier episode.
- S tier
- S6E04 - The Amazing Psych-Man & Tap Man, Issue #2
- "C'mon son!" back and forth! Finally!
- Well, having said that, this is a catchphrase heavy episode.
- Maybe because one of characters is "the catch", hence the catchphrases? Yeah, probably not.
- Ok, too many catchphrases, seems overwhelming.
- Lot's of Lassie funnies.
- Not good enough to be S tier, in fact, probably A tier only, but I'm giving it A+ because it was still enjoyable and the boys leaned into the ridiculousness of their charcters.
- A+ tier
- S6E05 - Dead Man's Curve Ball
- Funnier than I remembered, but one I didn't really want to watch.
- All of the ADR for Gus in costume just sounded off.
- Should be B tier, but maybe an A tier?
- B tier (for now)
- S6E06 - Shawn, Interrupted
- Frank is stacked!
- "This is worse than my nightmare, you like it here!"
- Lots of good moments.
- Lassie trying on the gloves!
- Hard to tell, A+ or A?
- A+ tier (for now)
- S6E07 - In for a Penny...
- Jules Flashback! That's new...
- Willaim Shatner was good.
- Plot was good. Jules knows her dad better than anyone, even when Shawn is fawning over paw.
- A+ tier
- S6E08 - The Tao of Gus
- Gus is extra creepy this season when he's trying to get a girlfirend, but especially this episode.
- Good episode, but not spectacular.
- A tier
- S6E09 - Neil Simon's Lover's Retreat
- Shawn and Jules on vacation!
- Jason Priestly! Tony Hale! Arden Myrin! Jennifer Finnigan! All great guest stars.
- Fun episode. Not S tier. Not even A+. But A is fair.
- A tier
- S6E10 - Indiana Shawn and the Temple of the Kinda Crappy, Rusty Old Dagger
- Great Despereaux episode! Better than the last one, and the last one got 'S'
- The warehouse scene is great.
- The ridiculous 11-point turn, only boat style! Funny.
- The Despereaux death that takes Shawn a while to accept was great.
- The Shawn and Gus fight scene is hilarious.
- Shawn daggering everything in the mansion was great,
- Despereaux returns! And explains everything. The reuinion scene was great.
- And the final final scene, with the art reveal. So many misdirections in this episode, great stuff!
- S tier
- S6E11 - Heeeeere's Lassie
- So many references. Most of which I don't get, but the obvious ones were well done. I did get those, even though I haven't seen The Shining per se, I have scene the famous bits.
- Tim is especially great in this one. Totally believable in all his states, and kinda scary when unhinged. Great stage makeup too.
- Not packed with jokes like others, but the funnies that were there were very effective in contrast to the pseudo-horror.
- Sara Rue as the neighbor Amy Alleris was perfectly nutty.
- The boys in ghostbusters attire!
- Great acting by all the guest cast.
- S tier
- S6E12 - Shawn and the Real Girl
- Lots of jokes, and some references to catch phrases, but they seem less awkwardly placed than the baseball episode.
- James - comfort lap pillows. They've been more visible this season, but this episode in particular. Every scene, just about.
- "Jackal down, jackal down"
- Gus: "I'm getting my heart on"
- Shawn's super vision is ridiculous. Spotting a hidden grill leak from 100 feet away? Spotting a piece of cloth hanging out of a parachute pack from 200 feet away?
- Lassie: "We've got a very good looking man is in a coma, and somebody caused it!"
- Shawn: "This is a taco burrito conversation, nachos!"
- Hang a lantern on it: the star of the show calling Shawn out on his rapid personality changes: ""One minute you're witty and sarcastic and smart, and the next you're like a six year old looking for a popsicle.""
- "We flip it around when the lights are down 3-4 times a week"
- The joke about not wanting to touch the drawers thing at the end was kinda weak.
- Shawn's joke: "Not bad for a stand in".
- Very silly, almost as a yin to last episode's yang. Plot was meh.
- A tier
- S6E13 - Let's Doo-Wop It Again
- Quarter black episode!
- "Congrats on your skinny Chaz bono look"
- Another credit song replacement
- Lassies nicknames for the band are funny. Best was probably "You, wind, and fire"
- Lassie also has a funny line: "I'm wearing my probable cause door kicking shoes"
- Woody putting Shawn's iPad below the blanket was funny.
- Funnier than I remember, but just not a great episode.
- B tier
- S6E14 - Autopsy Turvy
- The Afro-Thai conclusion was funny. Phat Thai Jones!
- Andy Berman - as Singh, with his accent. I swear I've seen this joke somewhere else, but either way, the first time I saw it I thought it was really funny. Now.. ehh.
- "This is about Bob, who is very very sad. You know why, because he's dead."
- Love the whole fortune teller scene. "Say what?" as she dropps the accent. Plus the table slamming. Very funny and well (fast) paced.
- Shawn and Gus trying to get behind each other trying to leave Whip Chatterly.
- Kate Miccuci - I completely forgot about this scene.
- "Is there anything hotter than a man scaling another man's cuticles?" The whole Woody and Grace back and forth is hilarious. "It's not, not working"
- Hard to rate this one. Would be S-tier, but the plot is a little far fetched in a few too many areas.
- A+ tier
- S6E15 - True Grits
- Not the greatest episode. No real notes.
- B tier
- S6E16 - Santabarbaratown
- Love the noir filter on all the scenes here.
- Gus' candy addiction is an all time high.
- Henry Spencer's trouser dropping / re-tucking. First (and last) time we've seen it, seems a little forced.
- Lots of good Henry Spencer moments in this. And the retirement scene was great serious acting.
- Sh'Dynasty! Best. Fake. Name. Ever. All because of the "comma to the top" back and forth.
- Shawn: "Rough day for you man, no way around that. The girl you're dating turns out to be your sister, who killed your father, who killed your mother, and was sleeping with your ex-girlfriend." Gus: "And Shawn punched you in the face."
- Great episode. Again, hard to decide S or A+ tier. To be continued argues for S. Lots of misdirection. But kind of odd in a way as well.
- A+ tier (UPDATE - downgraded from S just because it wasn't quite as spectacular as other S level episodes)
Whew! Season Six done (strong season!), season 7 up next!
A note on my tier list levels - S tier is reserved for something special, something extraordinary. The default Psych episode tier is A. A better than average Psych episode is A+. Something that doesn't quite live up to the high standards of most Psych's is set to B or C tier. C tier will only show up if needed. And none of these tier lists have D or F grades, because I just couldn't do that to a Psych episode.
